Key frame art is developed from the storyboarding for earlier comic, animation and film. Because it is an important moment in the script or story, a designed key frame with details can direct the other visual building process in the project. For example, the most important shot in the movie would usually be selected from the storyboard and illustrated with colours, lighting, clothing, environment, posture etc. This will be the reference for each department to look at. So good key frame art should also consider the practicality. Compare encironmental concept art, key frame art shares more similarity with illustration, where the artist's personal style and arrangemeny have more free room outside the industrial need.
